Cows are funny

Hi everyone!

It’s been a couple of weeks since I wrote about myself - that’s because my mommy (who helps me type) was busy with my daddy’s birthday celebrations (the week of April 14), and then I decided to get the stomach flu last week and basically feel icky for about 5 days! I don’t know what stomach flu means, but I do know that I couldn’t eat anything, and it was hard to keep more than a couple of tablespoons of juice in me for quite a while! I was sleepy/cranky/fussy/uncomfortable, and mommy did SIX loads of laundry one day (all thanks to me!).

But now I feel much better, and ready to report on my daily doings again. There’s been a lot of loud banging on our roof the last week (it coincided with my being really sick, my mommy wants to point out - I dunno something about the ironic timing of having to stay inside all day while it sounded like a football team holding practice on our roof?), and it’s because all the condos in our complex are getting new roofs! I like looking at the trucks when we go outside to go our car - anything with wheels is very cool, y’know!

Speaking of wheels, I have shown my mommy (much to her surprise, apparently) that I know which car is ours, and when we are out at the park etc, and I want to get in the car, I walk over and point at it. If that message doesn’t get across sufficiently, then I try to open the door handles. I’m getting pretty good at door handles, mostly because I’m getting pretty tall! I can reach up and put my juice cup up on the kitchen counter, and I can reach the door knobs in our house and am trying really hard to get enough leverage to turn them! Freedom, you will soon be mine! I still like helping empty the dishwasher, and also am helping put things in boxes when I’m done with them. I try to be organized!

Today I went to playgroup, and we played with a big parachute during circle time. Now, faithful readers will remember that in weeks past, I have not always been a fan of circle time, but I am getting more patient and learning to enjoy it. One thing that I really could not have cared less about in the past was the beginning exercise, when the teacher holds out these bells for us to shake, and all the kids run over and grab one and then we shake them while we sing a song. Then an elephant named “Willaby Wallaby” comes and takes it from each of the kids while we sing their name. Well, today not only did I run over and grab TWO bells, but I also shook it with gusto, and then let Willaby Wallaby take it back (with a little coercion from mom to let go of it). We also played with a parachute today, which in the past has quite frankly just freaked me out! But today I tried to grab and shake it with mommy, and then when all the parents lifted it up so we could run underneath it, I ran right to the middle and smiled really wide! The mommies and teacher all said “Yay, Decker!”, and then I got shy and ran back to my mom. But it was fun to try something new!

Oh! And what’s the point of the title of this blog? Well, I have become addicted to videos/books about farm animals lately, and I think cows and roosters are really funny! What can I say? They have great senses of humor!

Decker J, Future NBA Star?

Hi everyone!

Today I started my new playgroup (still “Hippity Hoppers”, but a new session that runs through June), and I had a really fun time! There were some kids I recognized from before, and I had fun watching them and trying to play “peek a boo” with them - but the best part of all was this basketball net that’s made for people my size! It’s a metal hoop with an attached net, and the frame stands on the ground and reaches up to about 5 inches above my head. There were these neat plastic balls that you could put through the net, but everytime I tried to do it myself, I would lift the ball up above my head, and the weight of it would then cause it to fall out of my hands and back behind me. So…my mom picked me up so I could make a slam dunk - that was so cool! After I put the ball through the net, my mom cheered me on, so I decided to grab the rim of the net with both hands and hang on tight! My mom said something about “showboating” and told me that “March Madness” is over, but I kept doing it over and over with every shot! I wonder if the professional players might find that move something fun to try? I think I look rad! (shoutout: Aunt Tully).

I may be destined for b-ball greatness, but I’m not too stuck on myself to remember that it’s important to help my mom and dad keep the house tidy. I spend a lot of time playing outside our garage with my scooter and wagon and balls and chalk, and when I am ready to go back inside I always let my mom know by bringing my stuff back in the garage and putting it back in the place it started! I will even pick up my chalk and put it all back in the bucket, and then try to put the bucket back up on dad’s toolbench! If I think I’ve parked the wagon or scooter incorrectly, I’ll just keep doing it until I think it looks right. Cleanliness is key, kiddies!

Well, there’s some Cheerios calling me, so I’m gonna go!

I like to help!

Just so people don’t start getting the wrong impression about me, I don’t just live here and wait for mom and dad to wait on me hand and foot! I earn my keep and help my mom with the chores - so far I have learned how to open and shut the dishwasher door (when it’s not closed tight, rrrrrrr), and slide the dish racks in and out, and place cups and tupperware and take them out too! I also like to help my mom shut the dryer door, but I’m not so fond of touching wet laundry yet. I let her take care of that! I help her sort the laundry as well - after she gets everything all neatly stacked and folded, I come and undo all of it into a nice scattered pile.

I’m thinking of starting my own cleaning service! I’ll work for strawberries!

Dig that crazy music!

AaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhAAAAhhhhhhaaa ah ah ah AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaah!

For those of you who can’t read Deckerese very well yet, that is what I sound like when I sing. I’ve always been a fan of music and song, but lately I seem to be feeling more and more of the melody in my soul, and I just gotta express myself! I will ’sing’ along with music on the stereo (I have great lung capacity for extended solos!), I will slap my hand on a flat surface, and last night when I didn’t think my parents were watching, I took my Big Bird and Cookie Monster (one in each hand), and bounced them up and down on the table to the beat! Hey, they dance on tv, why not on my table?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Ah!
