I take care of my friends!

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

This morning my mommy gave me a bowl of apple pieces to snack on, and she asked me if Big Bird (whom I was hugging at the time) wanted to eat some too. So much to her surprise, I took Big Bird and dipped his head into the bowl repeatedly to give him access to the yummy apple! After a while I decided that he still wasn’t getting enough to eat, so I started taking pieces of apple and putting them in his mouth. After he had a chance to munch for a bit, I would then finish it off for him. (After all, he usually only eats birdseed!). Then mommy asked if Big Bird wanted to sleep, and I lay him down on the floor and then all my other Little People figures in a row next to him. Then they all woke up. Then they all went to sleep again. We did this a lot. All I know is that my folks always make sure that I’m well fed and napped, and I have to make sure all my friends get the same good treatment!

I wonder if Big Bird would like yogurt…(Mommy is shaking her head with big wide eyes as we write this…what mommy? What about being out of “shout wipes”?).

Mommy is weird!

Hi all! Well, it’s been hecka hot around here lately! The last 2 1/2 weeks the temps at our house have hovered around 95-103 degrees, whatever that means. All I know is that I want to go outside, and I’m really nice about it and I go over and knock on the door and say “ah ah?” and look sweetly at my mom and figure that she’ll figure that going outside would indeed be the perfect plan at the present time. But no…I usually am told “Sweetie, it’s too hot”. WHATEVER! Don’t get me wrong, mommy takes me to the playground every morning, when it’s cooler. But in the afternoon after my naps? Denied!

We have this plastic purple tub thing called a “pool”, with pictures of penguins and pelicans in it. Most of the time, I really don’t want anything to do with it. But yesterday afternoon, my mom and dad took me outside to the back patio, where it was shadier and they had set out the pool and put water in it. They took off their shoes and stomped around in the pool, and pretty soon I got the idea that maybe I would want to join in. So I sat down right in the water and got very wet! They stripped me down and let me run around naked for the rest of the time, and I developed a little routine to help keep cool, which goes as follows:

1. Step into pool. Point at pictures of penguins and pelicans. Step back out.

2. Run over to the grass and sit down.

3. Go over to the flower box, and play with the wooden lady bugs that spin. Put rock through holes in trellis.

4. Go over to the trees and kiss them. Then go kiss mommy. Then daddy.

5. Go back to pool. Repeat.

Good times!

In other news: I can correctly identify whose car belongs to who, and I know the words Jetta, Passat and Mazda! If you ask me “Where’s Daddy’s car?” or “Where’s the Jetta (Aunt Katil’s car)?”, I will point to them quite proudly!

And - on Friday we went to a place called PIXAR with Pammy, Cappy, Katil and Tully, and they had this thing going on called a “Motorama” which meant that there were cars and trucks EVERYWHERE! I got to sit in the driver’s seat of a real live fire truck! Yahoo!

Mommy’s car is boring. She needs ladders and a hose and a siren.

Hi everyone!

Another week older, another week sillier! That’s what my mom says, anyway. Lately I’ve been trying out some new routines, and I think they’re really fun! For example, I like to stick out my right leg really high in the air and then take a giant step! But only with my right leg - that’s the rule - I don’t do left. I also like to stand up and then bend over and put my hands on the ground, and peek at people between my legs and giggle. The world looks so awesome upside-down!

I finished another playgroup session last week, and got another certificate with my feet stamped on it. Mommy showed me a certificate from earlier this year, and boy, have my feet grown! I think I might like to be called “Big Foot” now, if you please!

Shoutouts for blueberries being in season, and for nice long afternoon naps! (Except for the part where I wake up - feh on that!).

Diary of a Short Silly Toddler

Monday, July 4th, 2005

Hi everyone!

You may notice that it’s been a while since I last updated you all on my latest doings! Well, I figured it would be a nice treat for my folks if I brought home another round of toddler-itis from playgroup, and until a couple of days ago it’s been phlegm-central around here. As a result, my stenographer (Mommy) wasn’t really available to help me get my thoughts onto paper (or online, as it were) for a while. But we’re back now, baby - it’s all cool! And I have a lot to fill you in about!

Let’s see…we’ll start with Father’s Day weekend! It was really busy and really fun. On Saturday, Daddy took me and Mommy to the Model Railroad Museum in Larkey Park. This place was SO cool! Inside, there are great big toy railroads, with grownup men sitting behind all the tracks, playing with their trains. We weren’t allowed to play with the trains ourselves, but we were allowed to watch! They had gone to a lot of effort to make little towns and mountains and stuff for the trains to run on, and there was even a fake thunderstorm while we were in there! Daddy held me on his shoulders and reassured me it wasn’t real thunder, so I wasn’t too scared. There were so many trains to look at! I really like trains!

Then, the next day we drove really really really far and went to a place called “Muir Woods”. It was pretty neat - lots of big trees and a wooden sidewalk you can run up and down on. We stopped to eat some breakfast, and we saw some deer! And then more trees! And then I decided that my tummy hurt and I didn’t feel good (in hindsight, my mom wants to add, that’s when my folks should have realized I might be getting sick) and so I had a good little mini-fit right there in the woods. And then, I gave up and sat on my daddy’s shoulders again and all was well. And I slept and slept all the way home! Oh - I forgot - the best part about Muir Woods? They have a parking lot there, and when we left we saw tons and tons of BUSES! What a great park!

Ok, so then the next couple of weeks are sort of a blur ‘cuz I was sick with a stomach bug (I scared my mom and dad with a 105 fever!) and then I got a cold that lingered plus allergies. Bleah. But during all that I still tried to be a fun little guy and be silly and continue to learn and do new things. Examples:

*  I can now find my shadow! It’s so amazing - there’s this dark spot in front of you in the afternoon, that attaches to your feet, and it walks in front of you! You can walk along and point out at it, and it still stays with you! (But when your mom sneaks up behind you, it disappears for a bit - that’s weird!).

* I can ‘moonwalk’! Well, that is - I can walk backwards until I realize I’m doing it. Then I stop, try to figure out what I was doing, and then I just go in circles!

* Daddy planted a beautiful garden for Mommy up on the deck while we were in Utah. Every morning, we go outside and I turn on the water and hand the hose to her so we can give all the plants a drink of water and a bath. I’m really helpful! I can also push on the sliding glass door and screen door and close them when we’re done!

Last but not least - I went to another baseball game with my folks this past week, and had a great time! I was a good boy from the first pitch to the last inning, and best of all? The A’s won! Let’s go, Chavez! I got to eat lots of grapes and cheerios and drink lots of juice, and made friends with folks all around me. My grandpa Rick was there too, and he and daddy would cheer very loud when someone would hit the ball, so of course I would clap along! Baseball is fun!
