Super Decker!

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

At Pammy and Cappy’s house the other night, my mommy tucked my blankie into the neck of my pajamas, so it looked like I had a cape. Without any prompting from any of the grownups in the room, I jumped up and started zooming around like I was flying! That seemed to surprise them a great deal, and they said, “Decker, you’re flying with a cape, just like Super Grover!”. I figured I better give them the full show, so I ran over the corner where all my toys are, and grabbed the little doll shaped like Grover, and ran back to display him proudly to the group. That got even further applause - go figure!

In other news, I am now attempting new and ever more daring feats - for example, I will now climb up onto the big kid potty (I have my own special Sesame Street seat that goes on top of it), and sit there all by myself - with NO CLOTHES ON AT ALL! This may not sound like much, but to see my parents rave on about what a big boy I am when I try it, it is apparently quite a big deal! I like to climb on and off, on and off, using my little stepstool. It’s fun!

And I am talking more and more and more! I can name colors (”bwuh”, “dehdo”, “puhple”) and ask for milk, and will identify vehicles for you if you are interested. Most importantly, I have learned the word, “no”. I was very sick this past week with a bad cold, and while I was laying on the couch my mommy asked me if I wanted some more juice and I told her, “no”. At first she wasn’t sure she had heard me right, as this is not a word I had ever used with my folks before! But I shook my head as I said it, so she knew that’s what I meant! I like to say “no” almost in a questioning voice, like “no? no?” - but it still means “no”, no matter the inflection! As a result, my mom and dad kept asking me questions all week to get me to say “no” - it’s a fun game! (It doesn’t always get me what I want, but it sure is helping in my communication!)

So to all of you I wish you a pleasant week, no?

Happy New Year!

Hey everybody!

Wow, it’s been a whole month since my last blog entry - and a lot has been going on! First of all, there was this big event called “Christmas”. My mom and dad kept telling me how great it was gonna be, and they promised that since I had been so good, they had written to this guy named Santa Claus and asked him to bring me some presents. I don’t know much about this Santa fellow, other than that he has a hat, a white beard, a red suit and goes “ho ho ho”. BUT - he sure does deliver! I got some really neato stuff, and I’ve been having fun playing with it and keeping the living room rather busy and cluttered. I’m good about trying to put stuff away though!

Christmas was fun and busy and I got to see lots of family and play with lots of new toys and puzzles and other sundry good things. Plus, I got a new pair of pajamas that make me look like the Green Lantern - which means I look hecka cool! After my folks and I took a few days to recover, we then got to go on another airplane trip! This time we flew with Katil and Tully and Cappy (big crowd!), and we all went to Salt Lake City together. I really like to fly - I’m quite the experienced traveler now! I get my own big boy seat - I didn’t even have to sit in a car seat this time! And I can pull down the tray and watch a video or color or look out the window at all the pretty lights - so much fun! Plus my mom and dad are extra obliging while we fly and I get to drink all the juice I want! Then I sit on Katil’s lap and make sure to get her lap all wet as well, so then I get changed! It’s a fun game I like to play with her almost every time we travel!

We went to Salt Lake for something called New Year’s. Apparently this is an event that entails new calendars and yummy food and staying up really late and then shouting super loud from your front porch. Oh - and Cappy and Daddy blow up lots of big candles that spark and pop! From what I could tell, everyone had a fun time - but did I get woken up to join in the celebration? Noooooooooo sir! Whatever - I bet when I’m three I get to stay up just as late as the grownups! :)

We also went walking in the snow one day while we were there. The grownups all strapped on these strange looking metal baskets to their shoes, and they bundled me up all warm and with special boots so I could walk in the snow with them. However - I’m not so sure about this snow stuff - I found it rather distressing, overall. I wanted to be carried the whole time, and Mommy and Daddy’s arms were getting tired, so Cappy carried me for a while. I like Cappy, but I really wanted my mama. In fact, I was so distressed about the situation that while riding on Cappy’s shoulders, I busted out with “Ma Ma” in a very mournful manner! For those of you who may not know how big this is, this was the first time that any of the grownups (including my mommy!) had heard me say “Ma Ma” so clearly and deliberately. It got the job done! I got returned to my mommy’s arms, she started crying (what is that about?) and smiling really wide (so did everyone else) and everyone kept telling me, “Good job, Decker!”. I just figured New Year’s Day was the right day to start talking more (new year, new tricks!). So since then, I have added to my collection of words and can now say “Ma Ma”, “Da Da”, “ap-pah” (apple), “na na” (banana), “nigh nigh” (night night), “Bob” (bob the builder), “up ah” (open), and many other words that are emerging and getting clearer as I practice them. I’m feeling proud, and I can tell my folks are pleased! I’m even getting close to saying names like “Tuwwy” and “Ti Ka” (Katil).

It was fun visiting with family and friends in Utah, but it is also fun to be home and play with all my new toys again! I start back up in playgroup tomorrow and I’m excited! What can I say? I like routine - I’m 2 and a half years old!

Later skaters!

PS: My mom is trying this new thing where she is attempting to get me to try sitting on the potty. I am suspect of her motives - I’ll keep you posted with how it goes!
